I am raking hay today with Hayley and Abby. They trotted the first two rounds and after five rounds, are having their first break. We will bale later on this afternoon. Rain is coming in tonight. Last week they kept calling for rain, but when it would get here, the clouds would break up and go around us. We never got anything more than a sprinkle. But the cold front finally came through on Sunday. It is so nice out. Makes baling much easier.
That’s all for now. Off to rake more

Well we baled hay all day yesterday and it was heavy loaded pure alfalfa bales. We did 556 bales and had it unloaded in the barn last night. Six boys from Harrison were recruited by Miranda. Most of them are from the football team and they are worn out! They thought it would be easy because Miranda, Megan, and I do it. Ha Ha
Today we did 511 bales. Today they aren’t so heavy and went much faster. But a wagon blew a tire on the road and we had to unload it on the shoulder and reload it onto a different wagon - so we are no longer ahead. The good news is the hay is done until the next dry stretch and then we start again.

Echo and Storm are doing tremondous. They are both drinking three bottles of milk a feeding. We are working on getting them drinking from the nurse bucket. Echo has taken to it but prefers the bottle. Storm on the other hand does not think much of it.
Andi is due to calve in 10 more days.

I am live from the field today. I am raking hay with Hayley and Amanda. I am extremely pleased how well Amanda has been driving this summer. The hay is pretty wet - fog this morning and late dew. I am not sure if we will be able to bale it today or have to wait until tomorrow. The sun is pretty hot but it is not near as miserable as yesterday was. Last night on the news they said yesterday was the hottest day since 1999. In battle Ground, it was a heat index of 104. Yuck! Remind me of this in the winter and I am complaining of the cold. Some are saying it is supposed to be a dry winter and we won’t get much snow. My fingers are crossed…
Dris is starting to mow the big field today. It will be hay extravaganza here this weekend. If you don’t have anyhting better to do, come out and throw some bales. You don’t know what you are missing.

I cannot believe that it is Aug already. This summer is just flying by. We are mowing hay today - again. Using Aurora and Ava on the mower and they are chugging along very well. Megan is going to drive Hayley and Amanda on the trolley. We weaned colts a couple of weeks ago and it is nice to have hayley back to work. She can get these younger horses in shape. I walked around the hay field this morning to pick up any sticks that fell during the storm and the dew has me wet to my knees. Yuck. I talked to. A nice couple today from Washington state. They are traveling through and stopped to see the place. They were very interested in the hotrses and especially with breeding. I wish them luck on their travels! Well I have to get Megan started on the trolley so I am off

It’s going to be very hot again today. I am sure glad we got that hay off the field yesterday. It didn’t even rain last night. We just loaded up the wagons, so we have to unload them today. But it shouldn’t be too bad.
Pam took Molly in to the groomer yesterday. She looks nice and pretty.
Off to unload hay

I am raking hay this morning and we’ll be baling this afternoon. Lots of dew this morning and couldn’t start raking until late morning. We have rain coming tonight so it’s all gotta be baled this afternoon. Yay for hay baling
Janet had her calf last night. Two calves in one day - not bad

Janet had a bull calf around 4:30 yesterday afternoon. A bunch of people were here for milking and she waited for everyone to leave and then broke her water. We haven’t named him yet, but he’s red and white and real sharp. I am pretty excited to have two calves born on the same day. Come out and see our new babies!

Addy had her calf this morning at 7am. She did wonderfully all by herself. She had a heifer calf that we named Echo. She looks just like her dam. She is nursing and walking, slowly, around the paddock. Both are doing great. Come out and see our new calf!

I am tedding hay. It is such a nice morning and I have about half the field done. I am using Aurora and Amanda today. Amanda is in a bad mood and is making the turns difficult but all in all she’s doing well. But the bad thing about mowing and tedding hay is that tomorrow we have to bale. Yuck. The horses are getting restless so back to work
