In the 1800’s my gr-gr-grandfather Henry Barkley and his sons raised and sold draft horses in neighboring Jasper County. My gr-grandfather Robert McFarland Barkley was married to Margaret Shaw in 1852 in Battleground. I would like to think these horses might be descendants of the ones my ancestors raised.
