In this informative hands-on workshop, you will learn to safely handle, harness, and drive a team of horses. 



Specific topics include:

Equine Care and Farm Management
* Safety that goes beyond common sense
* In-depth first aid and preventative health care
* Nutrition and feed sources
* Stable and pasture management
* Horse selection and behavior
* Reproduction

Harness, Hitch and Drive
* Proper harness fitting and procedures
* Safe hitching and unhitching procedures
* Ground driving; driving the green horse
* Driving various pieces of equipment
* Hauling people safely
* Driving on the road, in traffic, in crowds

Horse Drawn Farming
* How to farm without the use of modern equipment
* Sustainable farming practices
* Horse-drawn equipment source, selection, use and maintenance 
* Crop selection and consumption

Itinerary

Sat: 8 am Introduction & Continental Breakfast

Harness and hitch

Dinner at RX Acres
Tour of the RX Acres breeding facility

Fees
$250 per person, includes breakfast and lunch
$200 per person for HP members, MOMCC members

Children under 18 need to be accompanied by an adult.
Cost for adult is $40 for food if you wish to eat with us.

Dris Abraham

Taught by Dris Abraham, the workshop is a great experience for both avid horsemen and beginners. 

Dris has been breeding, raising, and training his own Belgians for over a decade, and has worked and farmed with horses most of his life. 

Before becoming the Director at Historic Prophetstown, he was the manager of Agricultural Programming at Hale Farm, in Bath, Ohio.
